Ive seen this going around, accompanied by a lot of smug, self satisfied comments from the generations before me about how they grew up without all this stuff so they definitely could and of course they are far superior to those awful kids of today who spend all their time plugged in, why cant they just play outside, huh? I have something to say to you if you belong to this camp. YOU invented this technology. YOU promoted it and sold it to us. YOU made its use mainstream. If I were to do the things listed in teh picture, I would not be able to pay my bills. I wouldnt be able to hand in my university work, or input my meter readings for my gas bill. My estate agent gets annoyed if i dont answer the phone straightaway. My grandma scolds me if I leave my phone on silent for an evening. I have had emails about class cancellations THAT DAY so clearly I am expected to check my email as soon as I wake up or be inconvenienced and miss important things. I spent a few days at home recently relaxing and not checking my email and arrived back to all kinds of important emails Id missed. And whos going to be on my back about it if I were to simply log out for three months? Its not my generation who are the landlords and the tutors and who work for gas companies. Itll be YOU smug people wholl be evicting me and shutting off my gas supply. And when we were teenagers and we used to like to spend time outside? We got moved on by police from the generation above me, using laws made by law makers of the generation above me, and following complaints from residents commitees of the generations above me about how noisy all those kids in the park were. So stop being so smug about it. Thanks.
