Ive thought about why I disliked Divergent. There was too much emphasis on plot and it came at the cost of other elements I enjoyed a lot more. I enjoyed reading about Triss interactions with her group of friends and I liked finding out more about the world of Divergent. I liked reading about how she worked to survive as a Dauntless initiate. But the movie focused on Four to the exclusion of all the other characters. And the Four in the movie was grumpy and boring. The plot bored me too because Ive read the book recently enough to have it fresh in my mind. And the actress was so large and fit-looking, I didnt really understand why she had to work so hard to survive the physical fights. The actress really annoyed me on multiple levels. I like the fact that Tris has spunk and that shes a little bit selfish. But none of that really came across with the actress. I kept wishing theyd just cast Jennifer Lawrence instead of finding someone who looks vaguely like her.
