I’m a veteran and a member of American Legion Post 227 in Brandywine. Our Post has a display to honor fallen veterans and POW/MIAs and when each vet leaves, it’s customary to render a salute to show respect. I’ve rendered a salute often in my life and many salutes have been memorable; such as saluting my sister when she received her commission or my trip to fly Nixon out to California for his final resting place. Every salute I rendered was proper and showed honor, dignity, and respect for the individual, our flag, and our country. The act deserves to be conducted in a proper manner and I would recommend that if you are honored and blessed to perform the act, take the time to do it properly.
