Venue: Safari Restaurant, 3010 Fourth Avenue South, Minneapolis MN 55408 In 2011, decisions by several large U.S. banks cut off the ability of people living abroad to send money (remittances) to their family members at home in Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya etc.... This decision has deadly consequences, as many people in Somalia rely on support from abroad to help them afford basic necessities such as food and shelter. Families also use these funds to start small businesses, send children to school, and invest in their communities.
