I’ve been blessed to have friends that have enriched me and taught me many things about life through their differences and their life experiences. How dull life would be without the flavors of the world. I read once that if we were to wake up some morning and find that everyone was the same race, creed and color, we would find some other causes for prejudice by noon. Judgments prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances. Preconceived notions are the locks on the door to wisdom. My belief is that the test of courage comes when we are in the minority. The test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority. One day our descendants will think it incredible that we paid so much attention to things like the amount of melanin in our skin or the shape of our eyes or our gender instead of the unique identities of each of us as complex human beings. I place a shout out to those from my present and past that taught me love of Culture, the love of Art, love of difference of taste and love of humanity. It is never too late to give up our prejudices. In overcoming prejudice, working together is even more effective than talking together. If only closed minds came with closed mouths. We all could sit at the dinner table comfortably. This is a dedication to all my friends, acquaintances, and family that have brought wisdom to my life, experiences and happiness. My life has been full because of you. I could name a few but I’d be leaving so many out. You all know what special things you brought and what wisdom you’ve taught me about life. For everyone else …..Judge me all you want, just keep the verdict to yourself. If you read this post…..place one event of some one different that brought you a blessing.
