Monique Lynch, 22 , a data entry clerk who has been charged in the matter, was refused bail when she appeared in court last week. The police report that persons describing themselves as senior officials of the Ministry of Labour, have been collecting money from persons, after promising them jobs in Canada. The cops were called in earlier this month, when persons who paid over hundreds of thousands of dollars, turned up at the Ministry with packed suitcases, ready to travel overseas. Others turned up at the Ministry to do medical examinations and interviews, only to be informed that they have been scammed. Last week, the police raided premises in the Corporate Area community of Seaview Gardens where they arrested Lynch, who is said to be the main player behind the racket. During the raid, they seized more than 17 passports and other documents.he more than 30 persons who fell for the scam, paid over J$35-thousand in processing fees to Lynch. The cops suspect that a St Mary-based Pastor and persons employed to the Ministry of Labour, are also involved in the racket.Lynch is scheduled to return to court on August 20.
