JAMMU: Pakistani troops attacked forward Indian posts at Bhimber Gali along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmirs Poonch district on Friday, a defence spokesman said. The latest ceasefire violation came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif, saying he looked forward to a new course in bilateral relations in confrontation and violence free atmosphere. The spokesman described the cross- LoC firing unprovoked and said small arms and mortars were used to target Indian posts. Our troops gave befitting reply and the exchange of fire lasted for around 30 minutes, he said. The spokesman said no damage or casualty was reported on the Indian side. A soldier was killed and six others, including a Major, were wounded in twin improvised explosive device blasts in Poonchs Tarkundi Forest during a search operation near the LoC in Poonch on Thursday. There have been a series of ceasefire violations since April while three infiltration bids were foiled along the LoC as well. A soldier was killed in an ambush during one of the infiltration bids. Defence sources said ceasefire violations were aimed at helping militants infiltrate into Jammu & Kashmir from across the LoC. Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah linked the latest ceasefire violation to defence minister Arun Jaitleys first visit to the state on Saturday. Is it just a coincidence that the defence minister is visiting J&K, for his 1st visit, to review the security situation tomorrow? he tweeted. TOI news :( :( MAY THE SOUL OF THE SOLDIER REST IN PEACE __/\__
