JESUS BUILT A BRIDGE TO HEAVEN Weve seen in the news, in the past couple of years, several incidents where seemingly indestructible concrete and steel bridges just collapsing into the rivers below them. The cars on the bridges fell into the icy waters below and many lost their lives! The media was all over it talking about our failing infrastructure! But this wasnt the first, nor will it be the last, instances of broken bridges! Part of the problem is the cost of rebuilding. With some 99% of the bridges in the United States needing either repairs or total reconstruction the cost is phenomenal! Near where I work, are some pylons sitting in the water, remnants of a bridge that once connected the La Push village to the other side of the mouth of the river. There was a time when the land on the opposite side of the river was part of the reservation, but I was told that the river shifted, the bridge collapsed and, as a result, the only way to the other side of the delta is by driving all the way around! In the course of time, what little land belonging to the tribe that remained on the other side after the river changed course, has been absorbed by a campground; it is no longer part of the reservation because it was cut off! In times of war, like World Wars I and II, one of the methods for both sides of the conflict to slow the enemy, was destroying bridges either before they reach the bridges, to prevent their forward advancement, or after theyd crossed to cut them off from their supply chain. Because, once cut of, they could not get needed food and ammunition, they were at a disadvantage and often had to surrender to the enemy! In medieval times, when castles with moats protected the ruling class from the commoners working their lands, and from other clans trying to enlarge their land-holdings through wars and skirmishes. Bridges over the moats were often blocked by one or several gates. To prevent warring armies from marching into the grounds of the castle, the road narrowed down until only two or three could pass through the gates at one time. Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. (Matthew 7:13-14 KJV). The thought came to me that, when Adam and Eve sinned, the most vital bridge for humanity, the one that connected heaven and earth, was broken! We were cut off from our Heavenly Father because good and evil cannot co-exist, and sin now made humans evil! Our inheritance of eternal life ended with sin For the wages of sin is death;... (Romans 6:23a KJV). Our natural supply chain of blessings and love was disrupted and had to be rebuilt! ...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23b KJV). Only through the sacrifice of one perfect person, could the phenomenal price be paid to rebuild the bridge between that God-humanity gap. My
