JMVFD community weather safety ideas: With freezing temperature heading our way this week remember this is the time to be on high alert for your families safety. 1. Make sure your furnace filters are clean, flues are cleans, pilot lights acting appropriately. 2. ANIMALS often build nest in chimneys make sure all is clear before starting a fire. If in doubt call a chimney sweep. 3. Make sure you have fresh batteries in your CO detectors. Carbon monoxide kills. Will be posting more on this soon. 4. Make sure water stopcocks are covered and hoses drained and detached from house. 5. Make sure out door animals have a warm place to go. With the wind we will likely see wind chills in the teens. If you can bring them in overnight. 6. Check on elderly family, friends and neighbors. Let them know to call someone if their heat or electricity goes out. 7. Make sure if you are burning indoors to have an adequate fire extinguisher handy. 8. If you smell gas, propane etc... Remove everyone from the house, open windows and call 911 asap. They will call the utility company to come out and check for gas. JMVFD also has a has gas detector for several common gases. 9. Stay safe....post comments or question if you have any....
