JOBS! 3 job vacancies at Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) Start Date Jul 8, 2013 End Date Jul 19, 2013 Job Information Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage Electricity distribution network and all the operational assets associated with the business currently leased to Umeme Ltd. The company monitors Umeme Ltd investment, Generates and distributes thermal power in the districts of Moyo, Adjumani and Kalangala, Operation of the pole plant at Lugogo and execution of some rural electrification schemes and projects on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The Company is seeking to recruit qualified, competent and highly motivated Ugandans in the following fields: 1.Position: Legal Assistant Reports to: Principal Legal Officer Duty Station: Kampala Purpose of the Position: To provide legal services to the company in accordance to the company rules and regulations. Key Result Areas: 1. To provide legal support to all the company’s operations. 2. To simplify statutes, regulations and other legal documents pertaining to the operations of the company. 3. To liaise with and ensure the timely conclusion of all matters including those handled by external lawyers, insurance companies, insurance brokers and any other service providers to the Legal Department. 4. To prepare service agreements and ensure timely renewal where necessary. 5. To perform any other duties that may be assigned to him/her from time to time. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • A Bachelor of Laws Degree from a recognized university and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice • Must be enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court with a valid Practicing Certificate • Must possess a minimum of 3 (three) years of legal practice and experience in a Law Firm or reputable organization. • Must have knowledge and a firm understanding of legal procedural matters. • Ability to translate legal concepts into an easily understandable format and to communicate them clearly. • Must possess the maturity, self confidence and interpersonal skills to work closely with staff at all levels. • Excellent planning, organization and presentation skills. • A high degree of self motivation and ability to work independently. • Flexible attitude and attention to detail • Excellent written and oral skills • Computer literate 2.Position: Accounts Assistant Reports to: Senior Accountant Duty station: Kampala Purpose of the Job: To provide financial and administrative support in managing, supervising and coordinating all operational activities in the LIST and NEST areas. Key Result Areas: 1. Carry out sales analysis on monthly basis. 2. Ensure all accounting entries are booked in the ledger. 3. Review bank accounts, checks balances against ledger amounts and verify that such amounts agree with financial statement items. 4. Prepare monthly bank, collection, billing and ledger reconciliations. 5. Prepare financial reports for internal review before submission to financier. 6. Budget management according to the agreements. 7. Timely accountability for all funds received. 8. Co-ordinate imprest and payments 9. Support staff in terms of understanding financial procedures. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • A Bachelors degree in Commerce, Business Administration (Accounting option), pursuing a professional qualification (ACCA or CPA) will added advantage. • Experience of not less than 1 year in a relevant field from a recognized organization. • Computer literacy with competences in Sun systems, Microsoft office. • Self driven, analytical skills, high level of integrity. 3.Position : Human Resource Assistant Reports to: Principal Human Resource and Administrative Officer Duty station: Kampala Purpose of the Position: To provide technical support in human resource management including recruitment, selection, performance management, training and development in line with the UEDCL Human Resources policies and procedures. Key Result Areas: 1. Assist in the recruitment and selection process in line with Human Resource standards and procedures. 2. Maintain and update the HRIS system and provide accurate Human Resource information to stakeholders in a timely manner 3. Maintain and update staff fi les in accordance to the Human Resource policies and procedures 4. Track staff contracts and send reminders to staff whose probation and contracts are expiring 5. Update and track staff performance agreements and appraisals as per the HR policies and procedures 6. Prepare leave schedules and track leave taken in line with the UEDCL strategic guidelines 7. Maintain and update records of trainings carried out by staff in line with the training and development plan 8. Prepare service provider payments in line with UEDCL policies and procedures 9. Prepare reports and other briefs to the Principal HR and Administrative Officer on a monthly basis.
