JOYFUL JOURNAL for August 29, 2014 The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 --- I heard a message by David Jeremiah the other night on Saul’s Damascus Road conversion.* He focused his comments on Jesus’ question to Saul in verse 4, “Why do you persecute me?” Jesus had already ascended to heaven after the resurrection, so Saul wasn’t literally persecuting Him. He was persecuting the new believers in the church, but by doing so, Dr. Jeremiah pointed out, Jesus wanted Saul to know He was sharing in their suffering. And not just the suffering of the Christians Saul was personally persecuting, Dr. Jeremiah added, but the suffering of all believers. I never thought of Jesus suffering along with us before. Not personally. Literally feeling our pain, our hurt, our suffering. But I guess it was a concept the Holy Spirit wanted me to grasp because the very next day it was presented in a different way in one of my daily devotional books. And if that wasn’t enough, I received an email about a professor asking his students to draw a picture of someone who hurt them, place it on the wall & throw darts at it. When they were done with the exercise, the professor removed their pictures to reveal a torn & battered picture of Christ beneath theirs. All their ‘shots’ had been inflicted on Him as well. And now I’m writing about it. I think I understanding the message. --- Knowing Christ is caught in the crossfire of my hurtful words & actions, will it cause me to think twice before inflicting wounds? --- linger longer: Acts 9:1-19*, Romans 8:34-36, 1 Timothy 1:15-16 ----- https://youtube/watch?v=anVweXDcxhA Words Hawk Nelson
