JUNIOR GAME REVIEW - Under 10 Orange This week we came up against West Meadows in a showdown that could very well make or break us in making the finals. West Meadows had a lot more bigger bodies and without our number one ruckman it would make things difficult if we did not use our speed to out run them. I told the boys to take on the game and take risks to carry the ball forward quickly to give us the advantage. We got off to a slow start conceding 2 goals for the quarter and managing only 2 points ourselves. At quarter time we urged the boys to lift and get back in the game and with a change in the middle putting Josh into the ruck the midfielders started getting on top with Ceejay, Brayden and Julian all fighting hard and giving our forwards opportunities to scorel. A lack of concentration with manning up however saw us concede a goal but our forwards responded with Lincoln and Tyson kicking 2 quick goals of our own to see us just 5 points down at half time. The third quarter it all seemed to come unstuck. The boys stop chasing and seemed a little sluggish (maybe to many late nights watching the soccer?) . We had some opportunities but could not convert whereas West Meadows capitalised on there opportunities and put through 3 goals making it very difficult to come back from here. We rallied the troops for the final quarter and with a few positional changes putting Jordan at centre half forward and Tyson in the ruck to give Josh a rest who had worked tirelessly all day and did a great job in the ruck. We told them it was not impossible to win from here as long as we ran hard and kept the work rate up and pressure on. Well they came out and did exactly as I asked putting on an awesome display of tough hard footy. I was so proud how the boys fought it out with so many opportunities just falling short. A snap shot from Blade just fell short and several shots from Brayden and Lincoln were also just cut off at the last line of defense. They kept peppering away and we fell just short by 8 points whilst keeping West Meadows scoreless with another great game by Gus down back chopping off everything and another solid performance from Jordan down back before we moved him up forward. I couldnt be more proud of the boys and the way they fought it out well done. Thankyou to all the parents that help out each week, it makes the boys proud when they see their parents helping out and creates a positive team environment and thankyou to our managers Kate and Jo who do a great job of keeping everything running smoothly every week. Final scores: Bears 4.4.28 West Meadows 6.0.36 Goals: Tyson Iglesias 2, Brayden Abdilla, Lincoln Power Best: Gus Solomon, Josh Saliba, Tyson Iglesias, Blade Barwick-Rees, Jordan Filia, Brayden Abdilla GO BEARS!!!
