Jalopy Jackson Jalopy Jackson was the master of all! The servant to none! He was the world’s finest rider of a smig-la-mo-bun! Thousands came to see his great tricks, Hollering as he performed his high-kicks! Flailing about at the top of the schnozz, Upside-down now—all to roaring applause! Somersets and twists forty feet in the air, Escaping death by the breadth of a hair! Cooing like a dove and sauntering like a horse, And yet acting as if it were all in due course! Gasps from the crowd at what they were seeing, A triple spacklelark on one toe as he was leaning! Steering his contraption with a single red knob, He cantered butt-first across the schmiggle-ma-shnob, And holding in his teeth a corn-on-the-cob, He drew a quick breath to complete the job: Faster than lightning, tossing the bloosp in a lob, He caught it sideways, making a great mess— Oh! What a slob! His finale was over, his last trick complete, Bowing backwards, waving with his feet. His audience withdrew as he rode into the street, Dreaming of performing for the best of the elite! Wandering through the country on top of the schnozz, Imagining he was hearing the roar of applause, Arriving at cities to perform his great show, And leaving distraught, each time with the same “NO!” Past the last city on his great tour, Wanting to relive the good times once more, When he was strong and rich and not hungry and poor. Riding through a valley, recently ploughed, It happened again! The roar from the crowd! He saw them all, claps and hollers all aloud! Beaming and whirling on top of the shnozz, Dangling the iggidykloop and finagling the doodop— All without a pause! Whiling about in the dimming light, Performing his great show in the dead of night, Twirling his bloosp in the morning sun, Onward forever, went the world’s finest rider of a smig-la-mobun
