James E. Carmen, 62, of Beckford Street passed away the morning of Sept. 16, 2013, at Jameson Hospital. Born Nov. 15, 1950, in Detroit, James was a son of the late Willie and Anna Lee Simmons Thomas. Surviving at home is his wife, the former Delores Williams, whom he married Aug. 13, 2005. James attended Mitchell Hill College. He was a veteran of the Air Force and served two tours in Vietnam. James retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he had worked as a letter carrier and was a board member of the Civil Service Commission. He was a member and trustee of St. Paul Baptist Church. James was also a member of the VFW Post 315, the United Way and the New Castle Personnel Board. He cherished the times he spent with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his four sons, Lamont Carmen of Columbus, Ohio, Jermaine Waters of New Castle, Carlos Akins of New Castle and DeVon Carmen of New Castle; four stepchildren, Joan Williams of Pittsburgh, Keonna Fuqua of New Castle, Daquon Fuqua of New Castle and Jasiah Williams of New Castle; a brother, Frederick W. Simmons and his wife, Lorana, of Warren, Ohio; a sister, Sheila James of New Castle; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation is 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 20, at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St., followed by a service at noon Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert H. Mills of St. Paul Baptist Church will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military honors at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
