Japan started rebuilding herself after 1945. India got Independence in 1947. Why has Japan prospered so much and India is still struggling? Japan already had huge know-how and engineering skills in 1947. After all, they nearly defeated UK . They proved too weak compared to USA, but defeating UK was no joke. They did NOT allow foreign companies and promoted local companies, but there was very high local LIBERALIZATION. i.e. it was for employers to start business and also close it. Main reason was --- Japanese elitemen wanted to compete against US elitemen. So they promoted laws that improve technology. Indian elitemen never wanted to overtake US elitemen. So they promoted laws that would retain their dominance over country.
