Japanese astronaut talks to science students A Japanese astronaut has given a lecture about his experiences in space to students at a summer science camp in Fujiyoshida City, west of Tokyo. Akihiko Hoshide on August 6th talked about his 4-month mission on the International Space Station in 2012. The theme of the lecture was Making dreams come true. The camp was organized by a non-profit organization of scientists and businessmen. The attendants included 40 Japanese junior high school students and 8 senior high school and university students from China, South Korea and Thailand. Hoshide told them he was moved to see the Earth far below him and that he wanted the moment to last a long time. He said becoming an astronaut requires various things including language ability and physical strength, but that all space missions are achieved by teamwork. He added that he wants the young participants to achieve their goals by always feeling grateful to people around them. A junior high school student said she will try to work with others to contribute to the history of science. A Thai student said he wants to tell many people in his country about the lecture.
