Japeth defends Chot as Gilas coach: Masyadong nag-expect lahat ng mga Filipino Amid the ongoing revamp of the Gilas Pilipinas program, Japeth Aguilar defended the run of the national team under coach Chot Reyes. Reyes received flak from basketball fans following the disappointing seventh place-finish in the Asian Games. The continuation of his tenure as the Gilas Pilipinas coach remains to be seen, as a selection committee has been formed to decide who to appoint to take over the national program. But for Aguilar, the focus ought to be on the positive things Reyes did for the program. For me, coach did a great job, Aguilar said. He built and he created the best team na puwedeng mag-compete in a world stage. He did his best. Aguilar thinks that Reyes and the rest of the team were done in by Gilas early success in the World Cup, which saw the team take more heralded teams to the limit before falling in the endgame. The big man said that the national teams success in the world stage should be a step by step process, with the return to the world this year as a significant step forward.
