Jaya, an illustrated retelling of the Mahabharata by Devdutt - TopicsExpress

Jaya, an illustrated retelling of the Mahabharata by Devdutt Pattanaik I rate this book 5 Stars and more primarily due to two reasons. One is that this probably is the closest retelling of the Mahabharata which sticks to the original Sanskrit narrative penned down by Vyasa. And the second reason is due to the wonderfully relevant yet aesthetic illustrations in the book which easily help the reader visualize the events described. At the heart of it, this epic is more than just the virtuous and brave Pandavas versus the greedy and jealous Kauravas. And the fact that this book makes various mentions of this fact via the foot notes also earns it additional brownie points. The foot notes drawn from various other Tamil, Malayalam, Oriya and other retellings of this great epic can make a book by themselves. An awesome read from an inimitable author who excels in Indian and Indic mythological books and thoughts.
