Jealousy [jel-uh-see] noun, 1. jealous resentment against a rival, a person enjoying success or advantage, etc., or against anothers success or advantage itself. All year I have wanted to write a post about jealousy/envy. But I waited to make sure that my words on it would be balanced and careful. As humans it is natural to at times to feel a bit envious of someone else. To look at someone elses life and wish yours had some of what they got. Thats ok. Whats not ok is when envy and jealousy towards another grows within your spirit and mind in such away that you become owned by these emotions. Being owned by these emotions triggers one to knowingly or unknowingly begin to act out and outwardly make choices that affect the object of their envy in a negative and at times even destructive way. This past year I have repeatedly seen this green eyed monster grow inside folks far to many times. So much that I feel convicted to speak about it. I have witnessed people go to great lengths to downplay or even hide the achievement of another, withhold rightful things from them, purposely keep certain people out of things they should be included in, work feverishly scheming to obtain a position or place that someone else is standing in, create rumors and tear down a persons life and character to make them appear less than how others perceive them... So sad. Sad for the one who is operating from this place, and sad for the one on the receiving end of it. God has a strong word about envy- he calls it rottenness of the bones. Wow. Rotten Bones = Rotten Behavior. Truth - Proverbs 14:30 King James Version (KJV) A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones. God knows the true nature and intent of our hearts. All the time and energy spent on envying someone else and wanting what they have so much that you feel entitled to doing whatever you feel is necessary to obtain what they have is as the word says -rotten- and pure laziness. God has great plans for all his children..it takes work though, sacrifice and a relentless commitment to the process that God has laid out for your own unique place in this life. Wanting what someone else has will keep you from obtaining all that your supposed have. And thats what most sad that this world will never be impacted by what you were supposed to be because you spent time trying to have or be what was meant for someone else. Those whose struggle with envy/jealousy to the extremes you need to know that God has a great plan for your life, you too are special, gifted, talented and created especially by God to occupy a very special place in this world. A place that only you can stand in. But you will never find it , posses it or see it until you get past your envy.
