Jesus said that you MUST be more righteous than the religious leaders of His day (Matt 5:20) if you want to be saved. For us, our righteousness MUST be greater than Mother Theresa, the Pope, Paul, Daniel, Moses, Peter or John the Baptist if we are to be saved. I do not know about you, but I can NEVER measure up. The best any of us can ever do is filthy rags in Gods sight (Isa 64:6). When Adam and Eve sinned, they covered themselves with fig leaves (good works); but God said that would NOT pay for NOT trusting Him. He had Adam kill and skin an innocent animal to PAY for their rejection of Gods word (law). The innocent for the guilty. God has provided an offering acceptable to Himself; the brutal humiliation, torture and murder of His beloved Son for OUR sin. The CRUALTY that Jesus suffered is what SIN is in Gods sight. Each of us, selfish by nature, are EQUALLY culpable for Jesus death. To offer MY works to God is to REJECT HIS SACRIFICE. To say I am good so God must save me is blasphemy to God. God says You are selfish, therefore evil, therefore wicked. Yet, because of MY love for you, MY grace, MY goodness, I have given you forgiveness and paid a price that you could NOT pay. So I ask you the same as I asked Adam and Eve; TRUST ME and what My Son has done for you and NOT trust in yourself, and I, for My Own Name sake, will grant you eternal life and DEATH will never again trouble you.
