Jibreel Adebayo Olaniran > OKE-OGUN NEWS 24 COMMUNAL SPIRIT THAT PROMOTES LOVE,UNITY,GROWTH AND SUCCESS. NEIGHBOURS HELPING NEIGHBOURS (a.k.a OWE OR AARO) When I was younger ,I grew up to understand the concept and its application in two ways.This concept has disappeared into thin airs with its attendant benefits and advantages. I will illustrate the two applications : A ) FARMING : In those good old days, polygamy was popular,it stemmed out of the fact that the habit generate more hands (wives and children) as working tools in the farm. The farming culture at that time could be likened to Commercial farming. Despite the numbers of wives and children ,and involvement of the extended family members, the manpower is grossly inadequate for the farming. The head of the family will invite other heads of families and members to the farmland on a specific date which they will oblige. Arrangement will be made such that dates will be fixed for each family for service transfer on rotational basis . METHODOLOGY : Owe or Aaro is applied from the clearing of the bush,through ploughing to planting ,hoeing or weeding and finally harvesting. The owner of the farm will only prepare foods for the workers, no money transfer or payment is involved.. ADVANTAGES : 1) No need to take loan. 2) Working with teams spirit. 3) Promotion of love, peace and unity. 4) More labourers and bigger farms. 5) Larger output B) BUILDING OF HOUSE: The person that wanted to build the house would have planned ahead to buy corrugated iron sheets, nails of various sizes, roofing woods,supposed doors and windows . The peoples to assist in building the mud house will be invited just by the commencement of the dry season .Doors and Windows are fixed as building progresses; and as soon as the structure reached the desired level, roofing starts. METHODOLOGY : Foods will be prepared for the workers and anyone who cares to eat and share from the joys of house building. ADVANTAGES :As above and shorter time to complete the project . Certain percentages of peaceful coexistence,understanding ,unity, love and communal efforts that will bring growths and developments have been eroded over times through the machinations of (1) Religious trichotomy. (2) Political intolerance (3) Promotion of sectionalism (Adugboism) (4) Youth aggressiveness. RECOMMENDATIONS : Its in the atmosphere of 100% love and peaceful coexistence that growth and development can be envisioned and actualized. Many indigenes of the town have investments outside for the fear of vandalism, however if such investments are in the town,it will provide employment succour to our teaming youths and working class. SOLUTION : There should be public campaign against all the factors militating against our mutual coexistence and development. GOD BLESS ALL DAUGHTERS AND SONS OF IGBOHO, HOME AND ABROAD, AMEN.
