Jimmy Alapag wants 1 more PBA title MANILA, Philippines – PBA superstar Jimmy Alapag has admitted that he is heading into his final years as a professional basketball player. The 36-year-old point guard has been playing for over a decade in the PBA and won numerous awards along the way. But the “Mighty Mouse” wants to give his team Talk ‘N Text one more championship crown before calling it quits. “I know my career is much closer to the end than it is from the beginning,” Alapag said in an interview on Anthony Taberna’s Tapatan ni Tunying (TNT). “But Im just focused now on my being back to Talk N Text, trying to win another championship.” Alapag has won five PBA titles with Talk N Text. They won the All-Filipino Cup title in 2003, the Commissioners Cup crown in 2011 and the Philippine Cup championship in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Along the way, he nabbed individual honors like the 2011 Most Valuable Player award, 2003 Rookie of the Year plum, and the 2011 co-Finals MVP award. Alapag joined the Tropang Texters in 2003 when he was picked 10th overall by Talk ‘N Text in the PBA Draft. He has never left the team. The Mighty Mouse said he was so ecstatic being picked by the Tropang Texters that he promised to give his all for the team. “When I walked out and heard my name, I told my mom and dad Ill make sure that Talk N Text wont regret drafting me,” said Alapag. He also shared during his interview with Taberna how proud he was being part of the national basketball team. We introduced ourselves to the world stage na kayang kaya ng Pilipino when it comes to basketball, he said. He remembered the first reaction of the people at the FIBA Worlds in Spain when Gilas Pilipinas came out of the bus. Pagbaba namin sa bus, sinong nauna? Ako, si Jayson Castro, LA Tenorio, Jeff Chan, Paul Lee (all relatively short players)... So medyo napatingin sila like saying you guys picked the wrong team? said Alapag. But when they showed that they gave Croatia a tough fight during their first FIBA world game, he said people began taking them seriously. Pagbalik namin sa hotel, everything changed. The media telling us constantly how they enjoyed the game, how hard we fought, the amount of Puso we gave in the game despite the obvious height difference compared to the other teams, said Alapag. abs-cbnnews/sports/11/20/14/alapag-wants-1-more-pba-title -Cherryl ✿
