WATERLOO — The parents of a boy who they say was strapped to a classroom chair with a belt are suing the school district. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that the parents filed the lawsuit against the Waterloo Community School District on Sept. 24 in Black Hawk County. The school district hasn’t filed a formal response. School officials declined to comment. The lawsuit says the boy was 5 when a teacher periodically strapped him to his chair with a belt at Lou Henry Elementary in 2012. The lawsuit also says the teacher put hot cinnamon strips in the boy’s mouth as punishment. The parents said their son, diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, suffered physical and mental abuse. They are seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
