Jinya ramen experience // Ramen factor // Jinya Black 4.68 out of 5 stars (breakdown for the rating) noodle: 3.8 chashu: 4.8 temperature: 5 egg: 4.8 broth: 5 // Other // Interior decoration: 5 out of 5 stars Service : 4.5 out of 5 Jinya Bun: 5 out of 5 Gyoza: 6 out of 5 Cholate Mochi ice-cream 4.5 out of 5 Green tea Mochi ice-cream 3.5 out of 5 (I don’t rate Jinya Chicken Bowl since I didn’t share it with my husband.) I went to Jinya’s soft opening last night with my husband. 陣 Jinya Ramen and Bar is located 18299 S Egret Bay Blvd which is close to NASA Johnson Space Center. They are also going to be a location in Midtown Houston soon. After walking in the front door, we saw totally a different world. Their interior was just awesome! Beautiful decoration! I mean its not too fancy, but every table is well designed to enjoy conversation with our family and friends comfortably. I like their lighting too. Not too dark and not too bright! It was as if we are in a Café” on movie or drama. When we were seated, a waiter brought us a menu which was one sheet with covered by lamination. The menu was easy to understand for their new customers since it has a good explanation with lots of pictures. We ordered Jinya Bun and Gyoza as appetizer. And I had Jinya Black ramen while my husband had Jinya Chicken Chashu Bowl as our main dish. For the dessert, we had Chocolate Mochi ice-cream and Green tea Mochi ice-cream. We had Jinya Bun first as we are recommended. It’s great! I wish I could eat just this bun for my small lunch. I thought it’s much better than some hamburgers. Then while we are still eating the bun, they brought us gyoza, ramen, and Chashu rice bowl all together. That’s why I gave 0.5 negative factor out of 5 stars for their service. I wish they could wait to serve ramen until the customer finished eating appetizer. The gyoza was just excellent!!! This is one of best gyoza in my life. That’s why I rated 6 out of 5 stars. The gyoza sheets were very skinny. Juicy and crispy!!! Very hot! Just perfect for me. I can say one of the best in town. Heaven on earth! About the Jinya Black, I rated 4.65 out of 5 stars. First of all, you have to know my favorite ramen is not Tonkotsu ramen but Soy souse based ramen with Chashu & Japanese style leak. I’ve never eaten Tonkotsu in Japan even though I’m from Japan. All Tonkotsu I know are other ramen restaurants in Houston and a ramen shop in Las Vegas. I like this JInya Black was the best! Jinya Black is well coordination and good harmony with its noodle, very hot temperature, broth, chashu, egg, and other vegetables. great combination!!! However, the reason why I gave 1.2 negative out of 5 for the noodle is the type of noodle which is skinny and stiff like rice noodle is not my preference. But I have to admit the noodle matches with their broth very well. So, I understand they have to use this type of noodle with their Tonkotsu broth. And also, I like to have half sliced egg in the ramen. Whole egg is too much for me although they cooked middum well which is my favorite. Some people like my husband doesn’t want to eat boiled egg with meal except for breakfast. Finally, they have lots of topping choices. I ordered, spinach and Tokyo Negi (leak). Spinach was okay. But leak was too stiff to bite them because of its fibers. I understand it is difficult to prepare with good quality of fresh soft Negi here in Houston. I think if they could not prepare soft one, they just better cook them little bit so that they become more soft than fresh one. About the dessert, we ordered two kinds of Mochi ice cream since they don’t have Annin Tofu (sweet almond pudding). I like the chocolate one is better than green tea one. Although I normally enjoy green tea one more, this one doesn’t taste green tea well. I mean it doesn’t taste bitter taste of green tea at all. And also when they serve the Mochi, they are so tough to eat because of frozen. I wish they could defrost just a little bit before they serve. For their improvement suggestion DONT: Serve ramen before finishing appetizer. DO: Sliced egg DO: serve soft leak DO: Sell half & half (half ramen & half appetizer). To be honest with you, if we enjoy their appetizer, we don’t have a space for ramen. DO: Need more less grain choice menu if possible. Jinya Bun, Gyoza, Ramen, and Mochi are all grain. DO: Serve soy based broth too with curl yellow noodle in future. LOL Anyway, we enjoyed their soft opening. And we definitely come back soon. Next time, I would like to try Tokyo Yatai Ramen & Tan Tan Men with Annin Tofu for dessert.
