Union/Position: CUPE Local 38/Permanent #119636, 107066 and Temporary (up to 18 months) Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $37.31 - 41.03 - 43.08 - 45.23 - 47.49 - 49.87 per hour Out-of-Schedule Rates: $46.35 - 48.66 - 51.08 - 53.62 - 56.31 per hour This position is presently paid at an Out-of-Schedule rate to reflect current market conditions. Should market conditions change, the salary may be reviewed and may revert to the base rate. Hours of Work: This position works a standard 35 hour work week. Occasional 24/7 support is required. Business Unit Information Information Technology (IT) enables over 400 different City services in the Calgary metropolitan area. From traffic and transit to environment and safety, City IT helps make it possible. Responsibilities An exciting and challenging opportunity exists within Information Technology at The City of Calgary. The Network Management team requires an experienced and innovative Network Systems Administrator to support the corporate data network environment. Under the direction of the Supervisor, this individual will ensure that the infrastructure is installed, provisioned, secured and maintained in accordance with corporate architecture standards and procedures. Specific duties for this position include: provide support to the Enterprise Service Desk, team members and other support teams, participate in incident, problem, and crisis management, configuration management, change management, project management, asset management, document management, implement infrastructure and provide support and maintenance. Some projects that the successful applicant may be involved with include the ongoing deployment of a Wireless LAN throughout 230+ City-owned locations, and the implementation and evolution of a carrier-class Alcatel-Lucent MPLS network. Qualifications The successful applicant must possess one of the following combinations of related education and experience: A completed two year technical diploma in Computer Engineering Technology, Network Engineering Technology, or Computer Technology, supplemented by a minimum of four years related experience; OR A degree in Computer Science, supplemented by two years of related experience. Experience within a complex internetworking environment similar to The City of Calgary is required. Applicants must have experience with network management Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) tools, routing protocols, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, Ethernet, switching, Voice Over Internet Protocol, network analyzing tools, security, and wireless technologies. Applicants must have a valid Class 5 Drivers Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than six demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending. The ability to obtain a City of Calgary Operators permit is also required. Knowledge and experience with: BMC Remedy or a similar IT Service Management Suite, HP Network Node Manager, Alcatel-Lucent and Cisco network hardware, Wide Area Network technologies, and WiFi will be considered assets. The City of Calgary is especially interested in applicants with hands-on Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) or Aruba Networks Wireless LAN experience. Applicants also have to demonstrate excellent technical, analytical, communication, organizational, and project management skills, as well as the ability to provide leadership, perform effectively both independently and in a team environment. Customer service skills are essential. Notes Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
