John after years of selling millions of records was dropped by Columbia records. Nashville was also wanting to sell more records by imitating Pop radio stations and playing records by Young & Purdy artists unlike what they had done traditionally. John got signed to American Recordings and his singles started getting air play at Modern Rock stations, his albums were selling in the Gold categories and he won the Grammy award for best Traditional Country Album. In fact I VOTED FOR HIM! A week later this photo was used in a full page add in Billboard thanking Country Radio for all of their support as they did NOT play a single track off of this album. Karma? Tee Hee Hee.
