Johnstown Castle & Rathlannon Castle, Co. Wexford Johnstown Castle is a fine nineteenth century neo-Gothic mansion, however its origins are much older. The original castle was built by the Esmondes in the fifteenth or sixteenth century and expanded and remodelled to become the present house. Parts of the older structure can be seen on the northern elevation of the house. Also in the grounds of the estate is Rathlannon Castle, a late medieval tower house also built by the Esmondes, and remodelled slightly in the nineteenth century.
