“Join the Navy if you love adventures, have a passion to serve the nation and enjoy working with people as a team. You will soon realise that the friendships forged and the people you work and have fun with are the reasons that keep you going,” shares ME4 Joyce, a Combat Systems Engineer on board one of the largest ships in the Navy - RSS Persistence. Being in the Navy, she had never imagined she would be able to study overseas and fulfill her personal aspiration of obtaining a degree. With a Diploma in Mechatronics from Singapore Polytechnic, Joyce joined the Navy under the SAF Joint Polytechnic Scheme (now known as SAF MDES Study Award). After serving a few years on board ship, she was offered a scholarship by the Navy to pursue her university studies in Adelaide. “Thanks to the Navy, I was able to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Adelaide without having to worry about my expenses. Now having progressed to a more senior appointment, I look forward to contributing my deep engineering expertise, and guiding the junior military experts towards achieving their aspirations.” For those who are keen to learn more about female engineers in the Navy, Joyce will be on hand to share her experience at the inaugural Navy Women’s Career Seminar. • Date: 13 Dec (Saturday) • Time: 1 - 3pm (Naval Officer and Engineer) / 4 - 6pm (Naval Warfare System Expert) • Venue: “The Colony”@ *Scape, level 4 Register here at navy.sg/careerseminar today!
