Juat a brief cut from Dans into planned tomorrow night. Our understanding of the Church’s mission and our conception of its ministry are important. If we understand the local church from a human perspective; as little more than a religious non-profit organization, its members become resources and its purpose subject to redefinition with every cultural change. If the church is believed to be only a social institution designed to provide mutual fellowship, support and counseling for troubled people, then its members will be treated as victims and its ministries fashioned accordingly. But, if the Church is understood to be a community of people who have been redeemed by the cross and empowered by the Spirit, it is something more. The church is a divine institution and both the mission and the means by which it is accomplished must reflect that fact. So the prophet Zachariah declares, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts (4:6). I am looking forward to participating.
