Jumping out of aircraft on missions, leading troops on the front lines of combat, flying troops and dignitaries on helicopters, building facilities in Iraq, setting up communications in a desert: these are just some of the stories State Department employees shared about their lives prior to joining the Department at this year’s Roll Call. Roll Call is an opportunity for veteran employees to acknowledge their military service and briefly share their backgrounds, typically drawing more than 150 Veterans every year. The Department’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) has hosted the Roll Call for the last several years around Veterans Day to honor military veterans. At this year’s Roll Call, the OCR officially announced the Department’s newest affinity group, Veterans at State. The group will serve to promote awareness of the Departments more than 7,000 veterans and the unique skills they offer, promote career development, internal networking, and more.
