June 8, 2013 Local Landmark in Bahia de Caraquez Changes Ownership For Immediate Release Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador Contact: Don Murray donmurray505@gmail Local Landmark in Bahia de Caraquez Changes Ownership After approximately 7 years of increasing popularity, the well-known landmark hostel in Bahia de Caraquez, Coco Bongo, has changed ownership. Having tended to the needs of travelers from all over the world, and staking a claim as “THE” gringo hotspot in the area, previous owner and local “friend to all”, Susan Butson or “Suzy” decided it was time to make the change. “I have truly loved owning and operating Coco Bongo for the past 7 years. It’s been more than my business; it has been my home and the place where I’ve met hundreds if not thousands of new friends over the years. I am definitely going to miss it!” Suzy arrived in Ecuador some 7 years ago from her previous home in Eastern Australia. The death of her husband caused her to take a look at her life and make some hard decisions. Suzy decided to come to Ecuador… and she did… alone. Owning and operating a landmark hostel on Ecuador’s coast wasn’t part of her original plan but “You have to be prepared for everything in life, including opportunities. I’d never done anything like this before but I took right to it,” Suzy said with her obvious and charming Aussie accent. “Oh…I definitely hit some bumps along the way but it all worked out.” Asked what was on her agenda now, Suzy said she intended to spend some quality time in her own home and was looking forward to sitting on her terrace, enjoying the view. Then, I want to take some trips. I’ve been so busy that I really haven’t had much time to enjoy all of Ecuador. And I want to see Peru”, she said offering one of her plentiful warm and sincere smiles. New owner and local entrepreneur, Sean Carter, says he is thrilled that he was able to purchase the historic Coco Bongo property. “Coco Bongo is a local landmark and a great, historic property”, said Sean who owns a number of other properties and investments in the area including LuLu’s Bait Shack, a night spot on the waterfront. Sean also founded EcuaAssist with his partner, Marcos Chiluisa, Esq. EcuaAssist is an expanding business to assist those arriving from North America with such things as acquiring visas, starting and operating local business and the purchase and sale of real estate. In typical entrepreneurial fashion, Sean has his hands into a number of projects. In addition to the businesses above, Sean also owns a number of investment properties that require his management as well as a construction company that specializes in Mobussa homes utilizing pre-fabricated panels. Originally from Florida, Sean grew up in an entrepreneurial household. At a young age he started working with his father’s contracting company and later worked for years as a self-taught Software and Database Programmer for several large US tech companies, including Microsoft and Etrade. In 2004, Sean grew tired of the “rat race” in the United States and moved down to Ecuador for a change of scene and lifestyle. Since 2004, he has opened several very successful businesses, including Bungalow 6 Discotheque and the English Bookstore in Quito. He lived in Quito for 6 years before moving to Bahía de Caráquez in 2010. When asked what, if any changes might be made to the Coco Bongo building, Sean said a face lift and some upgrades were definitely in order. He will also be moving his EcuaAssist office into the building, alongside Coco Bongo.
