Just as this author had no sympathy for #WhiteGirlsRock Im getting sick of hearing other minorities complain about their lack of representation in the media. Black Girls Rock! is necessary because when you Google beautiful women, this is what you see. (The only asian who comes up is Nicole Scherzinger who is 1/2 Filipino) Because when you look at the covers of Vogue, this is what you see. (At least black women have been on the cover, the closest weve come is Naomi Campbell who is 1/4 Chinese) Because when Vanity Fair printed their Hollywood issue, they put the black actresses on the back cover. (Last time an Asian was on the cover of a Hollywood issue was 2005) Because when a dark-skinned woman is put on the cover of a magazine, this is what is done to her. (Every woman on every magazine cover is photoshopped) Because Pixar has never made a movie featuring a black cartoon character. (We just got our first one in Up! Although Im not sure how many people even knew he was Asian.) Because a black actress has never won a drama series Lead Actress Emmy. (Yeah no Asians have won this either) Because in 39 years, only three black women have been part of the cast of SNL. (Fred Armisen is of Japanese decent but come on weve essentially had 0 Asian cast members) Because, until Scandal, the only real place you could find black women in leading roles on television was The Real Housewives of _______. (Yeah all we have is the Mindy Project) Because the first black Disney Princess was a frog for 95 percent of the movie. (Eh yeah you guys may have had it worse here) How about the fact that if someone does blackface we all need to talk about it and write 100 articles but when Hollywood constantly whitewashes Asian parts no one seems to give a shit? Or how about the fact that the The Huffington Post has gay voices, black voices, and latino voices but no asian voices? I read a great quote the other day that growing up Asian Americans had to watch the Simpsons or Spongebob to see someone yellow. Im pretty sure no other minority has had to resort to that...
