Just got home from seeing The Giver. I really enjoyed the movie up until the last 5 minutes. I never read the book or had any background knowledge of the story...so everything at the end totally confused me. As an outsider watching it, i left the theater going wtf just happened?! When i was getting it explained to me by my wife, i thought of a real interesting parallel. The Transformer movies...despite what people seem to think...non fans seem to really love them. They make sense to people that arent expecting certain things. Theyre able to get the story and it makes sense to them. While fans will sit there and nitpick through the whole thing. My wife was able to do that with The Giver because shes a fan of the book (later i found out BOOKS) but with me....it all made sense up until the ending. So hate Michael Bay all you want...at least he does something good. Thats make movies that non fans can see and follow easily. The Giver, while a really good movie, made zero sense to me at the end and because of that, left a bad taste in my mouth.
