Just like black raindrops, hatchling serpents etched across the grasses, etched across the roads, fleeing the quiverings in the earth. I fell flat on my base, unable to escape my self, at first certain I was going to be struck by many little fangs, was dismayed enough that I could barely keep my eyelids raised, as the quiverings were taking their toll on my heart rate and breathing as well. Something wavered its way into my line of sight, multifacetously shifting yet dark and solidly colored as a boulder, and about as large. I realized I was staring at the waters of the pond, earth’s gelatinous behavior had done enough to destabilize them from their bedding. If I’d wanted to get away I was too late, it was already here and lurching up into a wave. A fat and slowly turning double-crescent moon shone before my eyes in its surfacing, I hadn’t realized it was the twin koi until I recognized their faces staring back
