Just read a compelling article about how women magazines should stop putting so much emphasis on looking good their articles and ads. There should also be less focus on celebrating youth and beauty on covers because that will influence what young women think about and work towards. Instead, we should put more emphasis on celebrating those who do well in career, sports, are intelligent, overcame the odds of being a minority race or from poor background etc. It is the same for the online sphere. There are plenty of blogs written by young women which tend to focus more on fashion, beauty and enjoying life. I think those things are somewhat important but a persons identity and her life should be much more than that. There are other aspects of a person or life which need more emphasis such as intellectual development, career, health, interpersonal skills, understanding your personality, broadening your horizons through travel, contributing to society etc. So, I hope to fill this gap in the blogosphere by writing more about those things which I feel would be beneficial to ones growth. I think that blogs and social media can be so much more powerful and impactful on a person than magazines because you feel closer to the author. They influence you much more cos they feel like a friend rather than someone distant and up there. While advertorials are a necessary evil, I promise to space them out as much as I can. I dont want to be part of the whole industry which contributes to people feeling inadequate about themselves, consumerism and thinking they should buy more so they would feel better. So, I will only write one ad per week, only take clients which I genuinely feel are good, can contribute to ones development and help you save money. :)
