Just returned from GFS (Girls Friendly Society) World Coucil, which Wales hosted at Swansea University. 180 delegates attended from 17 countries across the world. The Opening service was held at The Cathedral Brecon; it was Choral Eucharist with a visiting choir. The Closing Service was held at St Marys Swansea; it was a Service of Word and many young people participated in various ways. The Archbishop preached and commissioned Val Gribble (Australia) as World President, our Glenys Payne as Vice President and Father Isaiah (Papua New Guinea as World Chaplain. After the service, St Marys ladies provided a delicious tea. As well as business meetings we had entertainment in the eveings, with a Welsh flavour. We had a day out in Cardiff, visiting the Sennedd, where the Childrens Commissioner for Wales spoke to us, and of course St Fagans. Four parishes local parishes generosuly entertained us to supper that night. Speakers during the week included Bishop John, Lynne Tembey (WWP MU) and Revd Rose Hudson Wilkin. (Speakers Chaplain and Chaplain to the Queen). Our Patron (HRH Duchess of Cornwall) send a letter of greeting, which was read out at the start of Council along with greetings from Bishops and Primates across the world. It was a privilege for the Welsh team to welcome the world to Swansea and these 10 days will never be forgotten.
