Just returned from a few days at Joshua Tree and Organ Pipes - TopicsExpress

Just returned from a few days at Joshua Tree and Organ Pipes taking in the desert and hiking/enjoying the Mojave and Sonoran deserts. Such beauty. Ajo is an interesting town in a weird sort of way. It is a former copper town, now mostly full of snow birds and border patrol families. In its day over 7,000 people. Big school now a HUD housing project for low income artists. Huge mining pit and piles. Very cute planned community with a Mexican-like downtown plaza. Watched the desert angels setting out water in the desert. Theres a spring there that you can only visit with an armed guard. Thats more than surreal but I guess so it Arizona. The juxtaposition of nature and modern reality was jarring and infinitely interesting. Javelinas, kangaroo rats, hummingbirds, ocotillo, etc. Theres always another path to another mine. Palo Verdes are gorgeous.
