Just returned from watching the documentary Jodorowskys Dune, a film which has been described as the greatest sci-fi movie never made. Prior to David Lynch filming his version of Dune, Alejandro Jodorowsky acquired the rights to the book and he began gathering his team and putting together a script. I had heard mention of this version of Dune on the TV Tropes article and it sounded amazing so when I saw in the paper today that there not only was this documentary on the subject but that it was currently playing - made sure I got a seat right after work today :) Alejandro as you will see in the trailer, wanted to make a movie that felt like you were on LSD. The beginning of the documentary goes through some of his earlier works and... yeah, I think theres a good chance he could pull that off :P If you look at the team he had gathered... really this would have been an amazing project had it ultimately received funding (which in the end caused it to never get fully off the ground). The team he had gathered, his spiritual warriors, included storyboarding by Moebius, the Harkonnen designs would be by H.R. Giger, music for the Atreides would be by Pink Floyd (music for the Harkonnens would be by Magma, cant say Im as familiar with them), David OBannon for special effects, and for actors... David Carradine would play Duke Leto, Salvador Dalí would play Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, Orson Welles would be Baron Harkonnen, and Mick Jagger would play Feyd Rautha. I mean thats pretty damn impressive. Cant say I was impressed by the ending (which diverges even moreso than what David Lynch created) but the movie woulda been hella trippy. And one of the craziest parts... as youre watching this documentary it is a bit stunning by how many people were like Nope, never read the book but... XD
