Just saw this article: bostonglobe/news/world/2014/10/08/spain-euthanizes-pet-dog-ebola-infected-woman/5suJ0ghmFhRmIm6cG68jSI/story.html/ People are protesting the euthanization of the pet dog of the Spanish nurse infected with Ebola. Am wondering what sense of perspective these people have. I wish people would care more that thousands of humans are dying like dogs, and care less that one dog is dying (a comparatively humane death, no less). I love dogs too, but I am very concerned as to why people dont seem to care more about Ebolas toll in W. Africa. Whats happening there is truly one of the worst, most dehumanizing and destructive things I can imagine, especially because Ebola exploits the natural caring instinct that humans and healthcare workers have, and forces us to fear one another. Here we are in the 21st century, facing a modern day plague. Doesnt that seem like something we should be pushing back against with every resource we have? Why dont people care? Some evidence that they dont: money.cnn/2014/10/07/pf/ebola-donations/ Yet individual and corporate donations to support Ebola response efforts are lagging far behind the funds given in the aftermath of natural disasters, such as the 2010 earthquake in Haiti or last years typhoon in the Philippines. More evidence that they just dont get it - they are mourning a dog in the midst of this.
