Just two days ago we were hugging and playing with and serving and loving on the kids of Chihuahua, Mexico, and it feels quite strange to suddenly be back in my ordinary life. For years to come I will cherish the whole week, the kids and families we were privileged to serve, and the awesome friendships with my team and people in the community. Im still processing everything that happened, but here’s some snippets of what I learned: 1. My faith needs to be hand and hand with obedience. Practically to His Word and what He commands, and also what God calls me to specifically. “But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” James 1:25 “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for Me will find it.” –Jesus (Matthew 16:25) 2. Our God is everything we will ever need. I was envious of the rich faith of the Christian brothers and sisters we met and served alongside. I can easily let my worldly comforts, pursuit of fun, and financial security take the place of my need for the Lord. But all it does is hinder me from taking hold of the life that is truly life. “He who has God and everything else has no more than he who has God only.” –C.S. Lewis 3. Sometimes the best work we could ever do with the orphan crisis is messy and hard. But I was reminded by one of our team members that our King came down from Paradise to our broken world and became nothing on our behalf. The greatest display of humility, redemption, love, and restoration was messy and hard too: the cross. “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” Isaiah 1:17 Thank you Ashten, Walter, Micah, Rebecca, and the rest of LOCO Ministries, Inc. for everything you do. God bless you and we will all be praying for you.
