KALIMPONG 7 Sep 2013 The Kalimpong police today arrested two youths in connection with the ransom demand made to Ajay Agarwal, local bureau chief of Nepali daily ‘Himalaya Darpan’. Agarwal had filed a police complaint some days ago stating some youths had demanded Rs5 lakh from him. John Subba and Rajiv Gajmer were presented before Kalimpong ACJM Court today and sent to 14 days’ judicial custody on non-bailable charges. The next hearing is scheduled on September 21 and the court has asked the police to submit a case diary within that date. Defence lawyer Rajiv Parajuli said the police have also filed other cases against the duo besides the extortionone. He said they have been charged with non-bailable cases under IPC section 348 and 34 as per the charges filed by Ajay Agarwal. The duo has also been charged with ‘obstruction to police proceedings’ Case No. GR 190/13 and IPC non-bailable section 353/143/186/506.
