KATHUA, AUG. 29: To arrest the ongoing massive smuggling of sand and stone from “Sukal Khad”, the people of the Panchayat Basantpur has convened a mammoth meeting headed by Sarpanch of Panchayat, Joginder Singh at Basantpur and urged the district administration for strict action against sand and stone mafia. Later after the meeting to put their plight before the administration and Government for a rational and rigorous action against the sand and stone mafia, a deputation of Panchayat was also called on Deputy Commissioner Kathua. While urging the district administration and state government, the Sarpanch Panchayat Basantpur, Joginder Singh most of the plundered construction material from Sukal Khad is packed to Panjab where it is sold out at a rate of their own choice by the mafia. The Government Govt is failed to charge the tax from the stone and sand mafia that resulted not only a great economical loss to the J&K government but also dented the natural features of the Sukal Khad through which water ways disturbed as a danger to the area and even the agriculture land on the either sides of the Khad eroded and converted as fresh Khad that made many farmers as landless. In the meeting it was unanimously decided to block the national highway if administration will be failed to tackle the smugglers. In the meeting, residents of the Panchayat Preet Singh, Parkasho Devi, Jamal Din, Renu Rani, Tek Singh, Dev Raj Sharma, and many others were present.
