KIBRA 2017: Owalo, Okoth go head to head It has been a long time coming. The gravine has been awash with rumours. But yesterday, at Kibras Kamkunji Grounds, the announcement was finally made. The ODM ticket promises to be a fierce contest between the incumbent MP and the former Head Chief Campaign Manager of Hon Raila Odinga. Although the general election is a good three years away, a nairobi based management consultant Eliud Owalo declared himself in the running for the Kibra parliamentary seat which is the hotbed of city politics. It is significant that the announcement was made in the presence of CORD leader Raila Odinga, himself a former MP of the area, and also in the presence of Hon. Kenneth Okoth who is the current sitting member of parliament and one who inherited the seat from Hon Odinga. Owalo was specific that his entry into parliament was meant to primarily empower the youth in the area, as well as to provide the much need impetus in CORDs legislative agenda. Further, Owalo seeks to fill the vacuum that has been evident in opposition ranks especially when brave individuals are required to take government to task over pertinent issues. Owalo was categorical that he was capable of insulating the ODM party leader against constant unprovoked attacks from Jubilee government chatterbboxes. Owalos announcement was received with much wild cheering from the capacity crowd at the Kamkunji Grounds in Kibra constituency where the CORD leader was visiting to publicize signatures collection for the Okoa Kenya referendum initiative. Some youth could be seen carrying placards written Owalo Nyaleeee which in dholuo means Owalo can manage it When he rose to speak, Hon Okoth was magnanimous in accepting Owalos challenge, and promised a bruising battle to retain his seat.
