Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a major blow with news that goalkeeper and captain, Itumeleng Khune, could face around four weeks on the sidelines. The 26-year-old had to withdraw from last Saturday’s CAF Champions League game against Liga Muculmana after spraining his ankle in the warm-up, and was then withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad for tomorrow’s friendly against Brazil. While it was originally though that the injury was not a serious one, the ‘keeper has gone on to say that he could be out for around four weeks. The Chiefs and Bafana captain tweeted this morning having been for a scan, saying, “Grade 2 Syndesmosis tear, Ill be out for 4weeks...” 22-year-old Reyaad Pieterse deputised for Khune in the CAF Champions League this past weekend, keeping a clean sheet, and now looks likely to keep his place between the posts for Stuart Baxter’s side for a little while longer. No doubt Khune will be eager to speed up his recovery in the coming weeks and aim to be back sooner than expected in order to help the Amakhosi in their quest for silverware this season.
