Kalahi-CIDSS as agent of unity COMPOSTELA, Compostela Valley -Volunteers of the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) project in Compostela Valley have called on the government to intensify the implementation of the project as this has become an agent in bringing back the normal lives of the people affected by Typhoon Pablo. “Sa karon human sa ‘Pablo’ bisan pait apan naningkamot aron sa pagbarog. Hinay ang panginabuhi, nag-aginod apan dasig sa kaugalingon aron dili mawad-an sa paglaom. Sa amoang gamay’ng nataran nagtanom og gulayon aron alalay sa panud-an kada adlaw. Usahay usab maka income kay naay namalit niini. Tinabangan sa matag-usa (After ‘Pablo’, we are striving to rise again. Livelihood is difficult, but we motivate ourselves so as not to lose hope. In our front yard, we plant vegetables for our everyday consumption. Sometimes, we generate income when people buy our produce. We help each other here),” Kalahi-CIDSS volunteer Luz Marie M. Tayco said. Tayco added Kalahi-CIDSS is one project that needs to be continued because of the benefits that it gives to poor communities. "[Ang Kalahi-CIDSS] wala’y laing katuyu-an kung dili ang kaayuhan sa komunidad alang sa kalambuan (Kalahi-CIDSS has no other aim but community development)," she said. Kalahi-CIDSS or Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services is the flagship community-driven development (CDD) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development along with the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and the Sustainable Livelihood Program. It is a poverty reduction project where decision-making resides in the community. Volunteers, through the Community Empowerment Activity Cycle (CEAC), are taught to analyze their situation, identify their needs, manage their finances and procure materials for their prioritized sub-project. Tayco said the project taught them the spirit of unity in facing challenges like ‘Pablo’. “Para mas mapalambo ang pagpatuman sa mga programa, pagtinabangay tali sa mga barangay officials ngadto sa mga katawhan nga sakop sa komunidad ang kinahanglan (We learned that barangay officials and residents must unite to successfully implement government projects),” she said. “Dapat naa ang diwa sa pagtinabangay sa mga volunteers ug sa mga lumilihok sa maong programa (Community volunteers and project implementers must also unite),” Maricel Presores, another Kalahi-CIDSS volunteer of Barangay San Miguel, added. To date, Kalahi-CIDSS has completed 24 sub-projects in the municipality, while 16 more sub-projects are currently implemented under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) modality.
