Kamal Chenoy writes: 6 November Selling India KMC Neoliberals call anti-people economic policies reforms. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has termed the weakening of labour regulations reducing protections for the working class, together with changes to the new Land Acquisition Act permitting private investors to purchase land if only 50% of the land owners agree, as reforms. With land hunger rife and lakhs of farmer suicides, this will increase poverty in the rural sector. The new labour laws will weaken the trade union movement and sharply reduce the already diluted protection built into labour rights. As neoliberal reforms go there is little difference between the BJP and Congress, and most regional parties. The fight for the rights of the working people will reach a new level. And that in a country where international estimates find poverty to be a very high 68%.
