Kashmir floods: Geelani applauds youth This is a test from Allah and we should pray for its remedy Srinagar: Expressing deep sorrow on the death and destruction by floods, chairman Hurriyat Conference(G) Syed Ali Geelani Thursday said that people should not be discouraged and must face this eventuality jointly as a brave and honourable nation. While applauding the youth for their tiresome efforts in rescue and relief, Geelani said that all the work should be done in discipline and obedience, so that relief victims are helped in a dignified manner. Looting and jumbling at the relief camps and vehicles makes all the food and other items a waste and no one gets benefited by it, rather we should prefer others when it comes to relief, the octogenarian resistance leader said. He said: People especially those affiliated by Tehrrek-e-Hurrriyat should continue their day and night efforts to collect relief as well as its distribution. Coming heavily on government of India, Geelani said that on the first day of the floods we appealed to the international community including United Nations, UNICEF, OIC and other Muslim countries for urgent relief. We got a positive and warm response and many people outside were more than eager to send relief, but arrogant and biased Indian establishment did not allow that aid to reach us, thereby proving that they always wanted us to be treated as their own slaves. Now we have only option to relay and request our own people to come forward and support their brothers in destitute. Relief should be send to Central Relief camp established in Hyderpora, where from it is distributed affected areas, he said. Geelani said that people should take up the cleanness drive themselves as the authorities seem to have been washed away with the floods. Interacting with various delegations from every nook and corner of the state, he said that this is a test from Allah and we should pray for its remedy. We need to restrain from the wrongdoings so that we are bestowed with His blessings. How tragic it is that Yesterday’s well-of and givers are today’s takers. How week and helpless man is, he observed.
