Katie Orenstein, a graduate of Harvard and Columbia, is the founder and CEO of the OpEd Project, a nonprofit whose mission is to “increase the range of voices and quality of ideas we hear in the world.” Orenstein’s first goal was to increase the number of women thought leaders in “key commentary forums” (academic-speak for the newspapers read every morning). She notes, “The range of voices we hear from comes from a tiny sliver of the world’s population: mostly western, white, older, privileged and overwhelmingly (85%) male.” Which means we’re hearing from only a small fraction of the world’s brains. Not smart. —Lesa Engelthaler in What if Women Werent Afraid to be Heard? buff.ly/1dXVOEW
