Kenny Wheeler died last week. I discovered him in the 1970s when my dad played this wonderful record where he fronts Keith Jarrett, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette no less. I got to see him play in the 1980s in a church hall in West Wickham in Kent, where he was supporting Stan Tracey. I was struck at the time how awful it was that musicians of this calibre had to scrape a living in the UK by playing such crappy venues. On the other hand I felt incredibly privileged to see them play in such an intimate setting. R.I.P Mr.Wheeler. https://youtube/watch?v=hSAeK1zJOfc#t=212
