Kevin zipped down to Pole for the day to look at a winterover and decide if the winterover should stay or return to the States, before all in/out flights cease February 27th. The winterover physician is at Pole, but this is a borderline call and he wanted a second opinion. Heres my opinion - If it hurts when you do that, then dont do that. Thats probably why Kevin went to Pole instead of me today. Ha ha. Heres the announcement of Kevins and the Spirit of Montanas safe arrival at Pole, as broadcast over the Base PA system here at McMurdo. Everyone stops what theyre doing to listen. When I know Kevin is in the air and I hear MACCENTERs Attention all stations come blaring across the Basewide PA system, I always cringe and hold my breath, for the rest of their announcement. Skier 91 is MACCENTERs ID number for the Spirit of Montana, combining the first and last numbers of her tailwing. You can tell Kevin is a multi-season veteran of Pole from a mile away.
